The first session is mostly about getting to know each other. I'll want to understand what's brought you here and what you're hoping for. There's no pressure to have it all worked out, a lot of people come in without knowing exactly what they need. We go from there. It's also a chance for you to get a feel for whether this is the right fit, which matters just as much as anything else.

Honestly, you might not know until you try. The research consistently shows that the relationship between client and therapist matters more than any specific method. If after a couple of sessions it doesn't feel like a good fit, that's worth talking about, either with me directly, or by looking for someone else. I'd rather you find the right person than stay out of politeness.

Yes, with a few specific legal exceptions. I'm required to break confidentiality if there is serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or in response to a court order. Outside of those situations, what you share stays between us. I also receive regular clinical supervision as part of my professional obligations, this involves discussing aspects of client work anonymously with a supervisor to ensure quality of care.

There's no set answer. Some people come for six to ten sessions and feel like they've got what they needed. Others engage in longer-term work, sometimes years, because the issues they're exploring are complex or they find ongoing therapy valuable. We'll check in regularly about how things are going and what feels right. You're never locked in.

No referral needed. You can contact me directly to make an appointment.

Not currently. Medicare rebates for mental health services are available through registered psychologists and GPs, not through counsellors and psychotherapists under the current scheme. Some private health insurance policies do cover counselling, it's worth checking your policy. If cost is a significant barrier, feel free to reach out and we can have a conversation about options.

Yes, online sessions via video call are available. Some people prefer this for the flexibility, or if they're not on the Sunshine Coast. It works well for the kind of therapy I do. Just let me know when you get in touch and we can arrange it.

I ask for 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may incur a fee. Life happens, just get in touch as soon as you can.

I don't offer couples therapy. For individual adults (18+), this is the right place.

For children and young people, I work through my separate practice Good Game Counselling, which specialises in counselling for children and teens, including neurodivergent young people. If you're looking for support for a young person, that's the place to go.

If you're a parent wanting support navigating your child's neurodivergence for yourself, that's something I can help with here, in individual sessions.
